Barn Elms Community Pitch Redevelopment

STRI has been appointed as specialist turf consultants by the Royal Borough of Richmond Council, to facilitate an ambitious programme of works being undertaken to transform the Barn Elms Playing Fields in Queen Elizabeth Walk, into a multi-sport community facility.
Having demonstrated a thorough understanding of the brief as well as the ability to project manage and realize the clients’ objectives, STRI won their bid to secure the contract. We will be responsible for the overall management, encompassing the design, tendering and supervision of the works, due for completion June 2013.

Ground investigations
Detailed preliminary ground investigations will be carried out prior to redevelopment of the 46 acre site, along with a specification of the works to include provision for both new pitch builds, as well as the reconstruction of existing facilities. The new design layout will include eight mini football pitches, two junior and five senior pitches. As well as two rugby union pitches, three new tennis courts and two cricket pitches will be created. A multi-use games area will be installed and the fields’ cricket nets will be reinstated. As part of the plans, the running track has been saved and the grounds will have a car park fit for purpose.

Redevelopment of the Pavillion
Once complete, the £2.3m scheme, spearheaded by the Barn Elms Sports Trust with support from Richmond Council, will provide people of all ages with a multi sport and community facility allowing participation in a wide range of sports and clubs. The site will be protected for local sport and recreational use in partnership with Fields in Trust.
Cllr Pamela Fleming said,“The new facilities at Barn Elms set a standard for what can be achieved by people working together with the council. While it has taken some time in the making, I’m pleased we now have a programme of works, shaped to meet the wishes of the community, and that will be ready for use by the community in just under two years.”
