Pitch Care & Advice

One of our areas of expertise is the understanding of sports turf and knowing the best way to improve playing quality and durability across pitches. The STRI team has been researching and developing sports turf over the last eighty years and has gained knowledge of the best practices to use in the maintenance and improvement of both natural and artificial surfaces.

Our advisors are specialists in providing practical experience on the latest products, techniques and equipment that can be used to look after your pitches and produce good quality results.

STRI has a range of advisory services we offer to Gaelic Sports clients:

1. Annual STRI Subscription – this service is offered at a discounted price for clients wanting regular assessments and advice to achieve quality and consistency on their pitches; you can choose from one to up to four visits per year, dependent on your requirements. As an STRI Subscriber you also receive additional benefits including the STRI quarterly Bulletin, access to the STRI Helpline, discounts for lab testing and training courses.
2. Sports Surface Analysis & Problem Solving – this is a useful service for sports clubs and schools who require help with ‘one-off’ projects or issues, including:
   1. Problem Solving – solutions for problem areas of your pitch
   2. Design or reconstruction of pitches
   3. Drainage/Irrigation – assessment and solutions for new or existing drainage or irrigation systems
   4. Identification and advice on pests, weeds & diseases
   5. Soils testing and analysis (at our STRI laboratory)
3. Pitch Performance Analysis – detailed analysis of the playing quality and characteristics of your pitch, including surface hardness, traction, stud penetration, moisture, rooting depth, grass species composition and drainage. We use the latest developments from our STRI Research team in tools and technologies to give you an accurate assessment of the performance and quality of your pitch, with recommendations on how to improve.
