Benchmarking & Performance Review
This service provides a detailed analysis of the quality and playing performance of bowling greens, along with detailed reports and recommendations on how to improve the playing qualities of the turf and monitor your progress in improvements.
Our team developed this service initially for the use of local authorities and companies responsible for the management of multiple bowling greens. We can or will provide a performance analysis of each of the bowling greens and work with clients to develop a cost-effective maintenance programme across all greens to suit your budget and resources, identifying priorities and problem areas.
Due to many requests, we are now also offering this service to individual clubs, as it provides an in-depth understanding of how your bowling green is performing and gives you the tools to effectively track the progress of your improvement plans and report these back to your committee and members.
STRI advisors who provide this service are extremely knowledgeable with years of practical experience of assessing and advising bowling clubs on how to achieve good quality and consistency across bowling surfaces.
The benchmarking and performance review service includes the following set of measurements taken across multiple areas of each bowling green:
- Green speed – with an ideal target set of between 10-13 seconds for a bowl to travel 30 yards
- Grass species – sward count using an optical point quadrant
- Surface firmness – measured by clegg hammer impact
- Organic matter – analysed at four different depths
- Smoothness & Trueness – measured with the new STRI Trueness Meter™
- Infiltration – using the double ring method to measure drainage rates
The data and analysis provides you with a clear understanding of how your green is performing along with recommendations and information on how to effectively manage the turf and prioritise problems.
