John Lockyer MSc

Regional Turfgrass Agronomist - Central/Southern England & Spain  

John is the agronomist advisor for central southern England. His area includes Berkshire, Surrey, Hampshire, Sussex, Wiltshire and parts of central London.

John will be advising on a wide variety of work, this will include golf courses, bowling greens, cricket wickets, football and rugby pitches. His area of expertise is golf course management, although he is passionate about the development of all sports turf, natural and artificial.

He joined the STRI after spending fifteen years within various areas of the turf industry. He began by training as a golf course manager, gaining experience on golf courses from public level to international tournament class. He has worked in various management roles, gaining successful experience in England, the USA, Italy and Spain.

After reaching management level within golf, he decided to move into an academic focus. He completed a Masters degree in Sports Turf Management and then took a lecturing position, teaching soil/plant science, turfgrass science and supervisory management.

John is married and enjoys golf, sailing and writing. He also enjoys studying languages and speaks very good Spanish!
